Fake Summer

We English are often talking about the weather – it’s virtually a national past-time.
When working on a shoot – it’s no different. Photographers are always battling with the available light and here in the UK, I really think we sometimes have to battle quite hard.

This was a shoot for Homes and Gardens magazine. A lovely, summery, bright . . . ‘outdoors-y’ kind of shoot.
The forecast was good, but the reality . . . very different. Gale force winds, pouring rain, very little light – I do love England
. . . but not on that day.

With the help of the consistently brilliant stylist Sally Conran, we ended up covering a whole section of the garden with tarpauline and brought out some lovely big HMIs for the non-existent sun.
In the end though – it was the wind that threatened all our efforts to create a ‘fake summer’. Fun to look back on (when you know you’ve got the shots) – but at the time . . . . I guess we all love a challenge!!
